About

Hello there!

I am Job.

I have many masks: Writer, Poet, Teacher, Artist, Philosopher.

I write flash fiction, haiku, short stories and I am working on a novella, called The Trouble with Sam.

Why write a blog?

I created this blog to connect with people across time and space who share a similar worldview. I use this blog to share some of my writing.

Why do I write?

I write to create, to learn, to entertain myself, to leave a mark on life, to be remembered. To say I was here, even if just one person reads it.

Who do I write for?

I write for myself first. I am drawn to certain ideas and stories and like to pursue them to see what I can learn about life. After that I write for readers, hoping that there are people in the world who are like me and would enjoy my stories, my vision of the world.

What are my interests?

I am interested in many things.

Myths. Folk tales. Dreams. Archetypes. Japan. Escape. Science-Fiction. Space. Time. Ancient Civilizations. Star Wars. Indiana Jones. Bladerunner. Chekhov. Futurism. Hemingway. Expressionism. Carver. History. Kafka. Doctor Who. Cult and Classic Literature. Faith. Philosophy. Death. Inconsistency. Choices.

But I am more than a collection of things I like. Read my stories to find out more.

  1. Hello, Job! I find your writing thoughtful and interesting, and so I’ve nominated you for the Real Neat Blog Award. I hope you accept it (see my latest blog post for more info/instructions). Have a great day!

  2. Hello,
You let me include some of your words in a book, and I’m super excited and so glad to announce to you that Fall in Love with Writing is published!!!!!!!
Yay, it’s available on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B019CDRZXA?%2AVersion%2A=1&%2Aentries%2A=0
It’s only available as an ebook as I don’t have the resources to print hard copies any time soon.
I didn’t want to wait and do nothing and I’m not looking for the perfect best-selling book; I’m just learning as I go and doing what I can now.
Don’t worry if you don’t have a Kindle, the Kindle Cloud Reader is free and allows you to read Kindle books (I don’t think it’s compatible with Android platforms though). I’m looking at making it available through Google Play and as a pdf too.
Thank you so much for letting me include your words. I really hope you love the book!!!
Let me know what you think of it and any ways I could improve it. And if you have the time to leave a review on the Amazon page, that would be awesome. And to keep updated with everything, please like my writer’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/junidesireewriter/
Look forward to perhaps working with you on a sequel one day – hehe!

    • John, thanks for your interest in my writing. I was very impressed with the honesty and purity of your blog and writing. Keep in touch.

  3. Great to meet you, J. I’ve only scanned your blog and can already tell that you have a clear and confident way with words. I especially like how you condense so much into a span of 500-1,000 words. Looking forward to your new work!

    • Great, it’s nice to know there’s other O’Briens out in the world challenging the status quo and causing trouble. Keep it up!

  4. Hello,
I love this line: ‘I write to create, to learn, to entertain myself, to leave a mark on life, to be remembered. To say I was here, even if just one person reads it.’
I can very much relate. I was wondering if I could include those words in a book I’m working on where real people who write share about writing. It’s to inspire people to write. One of the sections is called: Why do you write. I’m compiling a list of reasons why people write and would love to include yours.
Your name, age and location would be included and all credit would go to you for your words.
All good if you’re not interested, just thought I’d check.

    • Hey, thanks for stopping by my blog. I’d be happy for you to use it. What’s your name? Where you from? Will it be an eBook or print?

      • Yay, thanks so much!
I’m Juni Desiree Howl and I’m from Queensland, Australia.
I’m hoping it will be a print book with glossy colour pages. But it may be an ebook first.
Can I get your name, age and location?
        Thanks heaps!

      • Hi Juni. You’re welcome. My name is J. O’Brien, from Ireland. I’m 36.
Have you considering Amazon Createspace? It’s free and easy to use and creates excellent POD books. I’m using it at the moment myself.
When do you expect to release the book?

      • Thanks heaps! I’ll look into it. Thanks for the tip!
I’m hoping at least by the end of the year. I’m waiting on a few pieces to be written by some people. I’m just getting into arranging and designing all the material now.
I was wondering if you’d like to answer some writing questions too? No need to spend ages on them. One sentence is fine, though you are welcome to write as much as you want. Anything that resonates with me will go in the book.
        Feel free to pass.

      • Great. I like the concept.
I’d be happy to answer a few questions, send them to me and I’ll see what I can offer.
